car2go Portland: Brunch, Beach and Blues Festival

When hosting friends and family in Portland, I often find it challenging to create an itinerary that fits in ALL the unique restaurants, sights and activities that make Portland; Portland.  My friend Maddie visited PDX for her first time during Fourth of July week and we had a whirlwind of adventure and food crammed into five days while still barely scratching the surface of Portland’s true character and charm.

It was especially important to me that she see the distinctive landscape of the Oregon coast, take in the Portland brunch scene and see why we have earned the nickname “Bridge City.”   So I partnered with car2go Portland for a brunch, beach and blues festival adventure.  We had such an exciting day that we may or may not have slept till 2pm the following recovery day.

car2go Portland

This was my first car2go experience which was exciting because I am usually tooling around in an old Nissan Rogue.  For those who are not familiar, car2go is a carsharing service allowing you to grab a vehicle in the Portland area without the hassle of a rental car company.  The car we selected was parked on the street just one block from my house.  After downloading the app, I was able to see all of the cars in my vicinity.  Portland car2go offers two types of Mercedes to choose from; Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLA.  We chose a sporty GLA for our adventure, and to be honest the car was so fancy it took me a few minutes to figure out how to adjust my mirrors and seat because of its high-tech features.

I was pleased to see they offer rental package options down to the amount of desired minutes.  You aren’t stuck with a full-day rental if you only need to run errands for 15 minutes.  The pricing structure makes it really affordable to fit the unique needs of anyone living within the city.  For this particular adventure however, we did utilize the 24-hour package.  All packages include fuel, parking and maintenance which is also incredibly convenient.   We effortlessly grabbed our reserved car and went to our first stop…brunch.

Brunch at Besaws

Two words; Huevos Rancheros.  It’s impossible for me to choose a favorite brunch spot in Portland but I know where to get my favorite huevos rancheros.  I also love Besaws brunch cocktail menu, especially the bubbles with seasonal fruit purée.

Oswald West and Cannon Beach

As a surfer and North Portland resident, I favor Oswald West State Park beach because of its natural beauty and accessibility from highway 26.  But of course, I showed Maddie Haystack Rock and indulged in some local seafood in Cannon Beach.

Portland Waterfront Blues Festival

Generally, I would stay for sunset at the coast on such a beautiful day but we had one more stop to make before parking the car and ending our car2go trip downtown Portland.  I am usually out of town for July 4th so I haven’t been to the Waterfront Blues Festival in years but I was ecstatic to see The Revivalists were headlining and it was only $15 for a full-day general admission ticket.  We also took a minute to drink some rosé down on the waterfront and point out all of our notorious bridges.
